Bastogne Walnut Musical Instrument/Furniture Plank: 1 5/8" Thick x 15" to 13 3/4" to 15" Wide x 53 1/2" to 55 3/4" Length. Breathtaking figure and color in this rare hybrid walnut plank. Air dried to 8% moisture content, machined flat on both sides and finish sanded. This is a must in any wood aficionados collection. This plank is 98% blemish free. A small bark inclusion can be seen in the close-up picture. You can also see a knot where a limb once grew displayed on both sides towards one end. For those that are interested this is one of four sequentially sawn planks available for sale.

There are over 20 species of walnut of which Bastogne is the rarest. Bastogne (Paradox) is the result of cross pollination between english walnut (Juglans regia) and California claro walnut (Juglans hindsii). This tree was first discovered by the famous botanist Luther Burbank. Bastogne is known for being very hard and displays the characteristics of both english and claro walnut. Over time this blank will turn a warm peach/apricot color. Three of the pictures were taken dry with no finish applied, the dampened pictures were taken using alcohol. Price: $475.
