There are over 20 known species of walnut of which Bastogne is the rarest. Bastogne (Paradox walnut) is the result of a cross pollination between english walnut (Juglans regia) and California claro walnut (Juglans hindsii). Paradox walnut was developed by the world famous botanist Luther Burbank towards the end of the 19th century at his home in Santa Rosa California. The wood sawn from this tree is known for being very hard and occasionally displaying the characteristic colors of both english and claro walnut. Bastogne is a must in any wood aficionados collection.
