This truck is delivering three highly figured claro walnut logs to our mill located in Grass Valley CA. The log on the front of the trailer weighed 6 1/2 tons and measured over 6 feet in diameter. We used a Stihl 090 chainsaw fitted with a five foot bar to break this beast down for milling. The log had to be sawn from both sides in order to complete the cut. The two halves were split again making it easier for us to mill this beauty on our 48" electric bandsaw mill. The wood sawn from this magnificent log will be used in the fabrication of musical instruments, furniture as well as high-end accessories. The last picture is a close-up of a sawn portion of the log displaying the spectacular color range found in California claro walnut.
