Some of the logs we purchase are so large we have to break them down in order to fit the sawmill. The largest of the three California claro walnut logs being delivered to our sawmill weighed 6 1/2 tons and measured over 6 feet in diameter. The chainsaw I am using is a Stihl 090 with a five foot bar. This log had to be sawn from both sides in order to complete the cut. The two halves were split again making it easier for us to mill this beauty on our 48" electric bandsaw mill. The wood sawn from this magnificent log will be used in the fabrication of musical instruments, furniture and high-end accessories.
